The Midheaven in Astrology

Writer's picture: SydneeSydnee

The midheaven is at the very top of the natal chart, and it is generally associated with our career. That's not the only interpretation of the midheaven, however.

With the midheaven being the highest point in the sky at the time of our birth and thus the highest point in our charts, it is representative of who we are when we are at our best, and the self we show in the public eye.

Most times, the midheaven falls in the 10th house, which is the house of what we are known for in the world. But in some charts, it will fall in the 9th or 11th houses. The succession of the 9th, 10th, and 11th houses are representative of the knowledge you must obtain (9th house), the application of what you've learned (10th house), and the awards you receive from outwardly applying what you've learned in life (11th house).

So, those with the midheaven in the 9th house may have to focus on the learning aspect of their career, and they will be lifelong students. The midheaven in the 11th house will be about finding those who are likeminded and reaping the rewards of your hard work in life.

The sign on the midheaven can be representative of the energy we take on when we are at work, in public, or even in front of an audience. It describes our personalities when we are in circumstances that are opposite from our private lives at home (the 4th house).

More often than not, when you want to find what kind of jobs you would best embody personality-wise, you would look at the midheaven, the planet that rules it, and the planets in the 10th house.

It is said that if you embody your 10th house in your career, you will find the success and recognition for following your "highest self" (with the 10th house being the height of the natal chart). It will attract the rewards you will reap from the 11th.

It can often represent what you strive for goal-wise in the area of career. For example, those with the Sun in or ruling the 10th house want to find a career that suits them best, and they want to be successful at it, too.

Those with Sagittarius in the 10th house or on the midheaven may be jovial or lighthearted at work. Sagittarius also rules international school, foreign languages, and gurus/religious leaders, so someone with this placement could be interested in duties pertaining to Sagittarian themes.

Pisces or water signs in the 10th house or on the midheaven can take on spiritual roles, roles that require a compassionate and loving behavior, service-based positions or creative visionary roles.

Embodying your midheaven is unlocking the success that is meant for you in life. With it being an angular house, it is one of the more important parts of the chart that requires attention.
